Mizzou Combiners

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on March 4th, 2010 under Football

Four Tigers were invited to the Combine and three of them participated in drills. As we all know, Danario Alexander's journey to the NFL hit another bump when he needed yet another surgery on his knee. That knee's been open more than Jenna Jamison's mouth (/Gene Claude). Alas, I provide for you now one-stop shopping on the Combine results courtesy of the NFL itself. The NFL's scoop on Danario: Alexander is a huge WR

Reesing, Daniel, and the Shriners

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 24th, 2010 under Football

Yes, this is a Mizzou blog. We write about Tigers. Still, I have not hidden my respect for one Todd Reesing, Jayhawk QB. He's gutsy, tough, and is apt at coming up with big plays. He may not have been a great college QB, but he was fun to watch even if you were rooting against him every single snap of his career. Well, he doesn't play for KU anymore

NFL Combine Invites – Big 12

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 14th, 2010 under Football

It's that time of year when the NFL makes public those who have been invited to prance and pose their way around a bunch of middle-aged men with beer bellies and too-tight nylon shorts. Surprisingly, invitees almost never say no. In its infinite wisdom, the NFL got its hands on the MU depth chart and decided to invite nearly all the senior starters. Tigers who will be at the combine:

NFL Playoffs – it’s all “Mizzou”

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 9th, 2010 under Football

Today the Jets play at the Bengals and Eagles at the Cowboys. The most intriguing thing for Mizzou fans is, of course, that former Tigers playing key roles on the visiting teams. The NFL is finally interesting to me again. As if you needed another reason to like Rex Ryan, the coach who finally figured out that lining Brad Smith up as QB in the Wildcat formation, there's another reason. That Jet formation

Tigers Representing in the NFL

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on December 27th, 2009 under Football

Big day for Mizzou Tigers in the League. Brad Smith returned a kickoff for 106 yards, the longest play in Jets history. Maclin had six catches for 96 yards including the catch of the game for the Eagles - Click here and then on Jeremy Maclin 27 yard catch. Ziggy Hood registered a big

Belichick: Savant or just idiot? You make the call!

Posted by Gene Claude on November 17th, 2009 under Football

For those of you insulated from the world of cookie cutter NFL football, let me set the stage. Patriots winning by 6 points, fourth and 2 from their own 28 with 2:08 remaining in the game. The Patriots had witnessed two scoring drives by Indy in the fourth of greater than 70 yards that took less than 2 minutes. I'm sure you all know that Belichick went for it, and Kevin Faulk was spotted about

Tigers/Big 12 in the NFL

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on September 22nd, 2009 under Football

The League will never be the same.  Two Sundays in and the Tigers have announced their presence with authority in the NFL. The five offensive Tigers combined for 11 receptions for 117 yards and a TD, along with two carries for 22 yards. The five defensive Tigers, not to be outdone, tallied 5 tackles, including a sack, and one forced fumble.  Even Colin Brown rehabbed well.  Domination!  This performance has inspired me to follow up on an article

Mizzou/Illinois Post-Mortem – The Reloading

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on September 7th, 2009 under Football

The first game of the '09 season served to put the rest of the nation on notice that Mizzou isn't bothering with a rebuilding year.  As AT has attested over and over, this Missouri team is good and should challenge for the Big 12 North.  About that now, there can be no doubt. 37-9 against a BCS opponent.  Pretty good evidence that the Tigers have reloaded.  Blaine Gabbert's 319 yards, 3 TDs, 1 rushing TD, 0 picks.

From tonight's Redskins/Steelers game: 2-10-PIT 39 (14:27) 10-C.Daniel sacked at WAS 49 for -12 yards (96-E.Hood). 3-22-WAS 49 (13:50) (Shotgun) 10-C.Daniel sacked at WAS 49 for 0 yards (96-E.Hood). Chase Daniel actually got to play tonight and made the most of it.  His final numbers were:  6-8, 58 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT, and 22 yards rushing.   The non-Chase Redskin QBs combined for 9-21, 91 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs, and 2 yards rushing.  Ziggy Hood was in on

NFL Pre-Camps

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on July 18th, 2009 under Football

NFL fans are chomping at the bit to get started, so there's been some random writings from around the nation on what the preseason camps will bring.  Here's a sampling of what people are saying about our Tigers. Chase Daniel. Any time a Redskins quarterback takes the field, whether it’s training camp or game, he is sure to draw plenty of attention. Daniel, an undrafted rookie, is fourth

Predictions on 2009 Draftees NFL success

Posted by Gene Claude on May 13th, 2009 under Football

Just for fun, so I can be mocked mercilessly in a few years, here are my predictions of NFL success for the 2009 Tiger NFL draft class: 1. Chase Coffman. I guess it is just a feeling, but Coffman's competitive fire and "difference-ness" make him my choice for the 2009 draftee most likely to have sustained NFL success. Coffman can do things, namely, catch passes while blanketed by defenders, that is unusual and very valuable in

A LB and a WR get their shots

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on May 4th, 2009 under Football

Brock Christopher had a deal in place with the Atlanta Falcons before the draft even started.  Tommy Saunders got invited to tryout with the Bucs after impressive pro-days that included benching Ziggy Hood 20 times.   That dude is all muscle - and he can catch the ball too.  While the drafted and Chase Tigers have lit up the google alerts this past week, Brock has been oh so silent.   Probably not a good sign, but really,

QB Chases’ Free Agent Journeys

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on May 1st, 2009 under Football

The quarterbacks Chase have embarked on their quest to carry a clipboard, wear a headset and an outrageously long cape-like coat in the winter, and make a shitload of money.  A nobler pursuit I do not know.   We've come a long way from this.... The halcyon days of Chasery if ever there was one.   The magazine came out just after the Oklahoma State game.  Sure, Daniel did not look

Stryker in Oaktown

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on May 1st, 2009 under

Stryker Sulak is on the same Colin Brown bubble with respect to making the NFL team that drafted him.  I like his chances less than Brown's if only because the Raiders are dumb and keeping the man who lead all of college football in forced fumbles would be smart.  It's become a chant almost to say Stryker is a 'tweener.  I bet he's tired of hearing that word.  They say he's not big enough to play

Colin Brown in The KC

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on April 30th, 2009 under

Well, this was a pleasant surprise.  Not much had been written about Colin before the draft and while I assumed he'd get an NFL shot, I thought it'd be the free agent route.  Colin was surprised when his phone rang during the fifth round.  The Chiefs, my adopted hometown team but not a team I root for, made Colin their fourth pick in the draft and their only drafted offensive lineman.  This on a team that needs
