Reesing, Daniel, and the Shriners

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 24th, 2010 under Football

Yes, this is a Mizzou blog. We write about Tigers. Still, I have not hidden my respect for one Todd Reesing, Jayhawk QB. He's gutsy, tough, and is apt at coming up with big plays. He may not have been a great college QB, but he was fun to watch even if you were rooting against him every single snap of his career. Well, he doesn't play for KU anymore

Gabbert’s Goodness

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on October 5th, 2009 under Football

I do not believe in jinxes, so I can freely discuss how awesome Blaine Yo Gabbert Gabbert has been in his first four starts. Openly discussing his lack of INTs, his lofty passing efficiency rating, or his freakish ability to make the big play while scampering for the sideline will have no affect on his performance against the Huskers. In fact, I suggest we all talk about not only Gabbert's performance thus far, but about

Between the Tweets

We understand...maybe you're too old to fully grasp Twitter or you just can't keep up. Maybe your company doesn't fully understand the value of social media and prevents your access as a way to keep you down. Not important. What IS important is that your Missouri Tigers actively use Twitter, and we are hanging on each and every word... @ChaseDaniel Congrats to @blainegabbert & @d_alexander81 on career days! Battlefield Recon – A Look at the Tigers’ Remaining Opponents

NEVADA 2009 Record: 0-2 Last week: L 35-20 @ Colorado State (3-0) This week: Mizzou Nevada’s woes continued in Fort Collins as the Wolf Pack turned the ball over an unbelievable five times.  The WAC preseason offensive player of the year, QB Colin “Bo” Kaepernick, completely shat on himself again throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble.  The Wolf

Pretty In Black and Gold

His Name is Blaine? Andie: You know you're talking like that just because I'm going out with Blaine. Duckie: His name is Blaine? Oh! That's a major appliance, that's not a name! Blaine Gabbert's parents must have never seen 1986's Pretty in Pink (yes, Blaine was born AFTER this movie was made – does that make you feel

Chase and Ziggy

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on August 22nd, 2009 under Football

From tonight's Redskins/Steelers game: 2-10-PIT 39 (14:27) 10-C.Daniel sacked at WAS 49 for -12 yards (96-E.Hood). 3-22-WAS 49 (13:50) (Shotgun) 10-C.Daniel sacked at WAS 49 for 0 yards (96-E.Hood). Chase Daniel actually got to play tonight and made the most of it.  His final numbers were:  6-8, 58 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT, and 22 yards rushing.   The non-Chase Redskin QBs combined for 9-21, 91 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs, and 2 yards rushing.  Ziggy Hood was in on

Ah, so that’s it

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on August 6th, 2009 under Football

A lot has been written about Mizzou's fall from 12-2 juggernaut to 10-4 also-ran.  Blame for the demise has been readily dished out - some say the defense was to blame; Eberflus especially.  Some blame Chase Daniel's tendency to throw interceptions.  Some blame the lack of a jumbo set and fullback.  Speculation can come to an end.  I think KU Sports has nailed it.  In discussing whether a Reesing for Heisman campaign will

Chase Daniel’s NFL Quest

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on August 3rd, 2009 under

And so it begins.  Chase Daniel got his white whale and now tackles an even more difficult task (no offense to Phil Johnson) of sticking on an NFL roster.  This is NOT going to be easy. The Redskins' site has a blow-by-blow rundown of the first day at camp.  Camp is tough.  Chase was picked last for the tug-of-war, he got poison ivy, wrote three letters

NFL Pre-Camps

NFL fans are chomping at the bit to get started, so there's been some random writings from around the nation on what the preseason camps will bring.  Here's a sampling of what people are saying about our Tigers. Chase Daniel. Any time a Redskins quarterback takes the field, whether it’s training camp or game, he is sure to draw plenty of attention. Daniel, an undrafted rookie, is fourth

Chase Daniel…

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on July 13th, 2009 under

While trying to make the Redskin roster, former BMOC QB1 hosted the Chase Daniel Elite Football Camp.  Just more evidence that our own Benjamin Buttons is destined to coach for the Missouri Tigers - probably sooner rather than later. A popular 'skins' blog recently posted this: Backup Quarterback: Colt Brennan vs. Todd Collins vs. Chase Daniel Prediction: Brennan (Daniel will get the axe, Collins will take the number three spot.) Sure, it's just a WAG, but

QB Chases’ Free Agent Journeys

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on May 1st, 2009 under Football

The quarterbacks Chase have embarked on their quest to carry a clipboard, wear a headset and an outrageously long cape-like coat in the winter, and make a shitload of money.  A nobler pursuit I do not know.   We've come a long way from this.... The halcyon days of Chasery if ever there was one.   The magazine came out just after the Oklahoma State game.  Sure, Daniel did not look

Shrine Disaster….

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 18th, 2009 under Football

So, this is how it ends?  All-star games are painful to watch anyway, but watching Chase Daniel go out like this was especially awful.  He's lost his mojo and more.  Chase went 2 for 9 for 1 yard.  2-9, 1 yard.  Seriously, that's his line.  He had five possessions (maybe six), and unlike his QB teammates (Hoyer and Cantwell), didn't move his team at all.  His passer rating, and remember he now holds the record

The Curious Case of Chase Daniel (MU-Northwestern PM)

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on December 30th, 2008 under Football

It's the end of an era and I feel fine.  Tigers win, which is all that really matters.  Winning ugly is still winning.  Losing to that Northwestern team would have been the pinnacle of an embarrassing season where Mizzou adorned preseason mags as a fave for the national championship.  Seriously, those Wildcats aren't that much better than the Big 12's Wildcats.  Losing would have been devastating - to me anyway.  It would have ruined me.  I would

Passing Efficiency – and then there was one

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on December 22nd, 2008 under Football

For the whole story on the importance of Chase's chase, see: Part 1. Part 2. Part 3.  It's been a spirited battle between a college football superstar and a has-been-if-there-ever-was-one that all comes down to the Alamo Bowl.  Only the Northwestern Wildcat defense stands in the way of Chase Daniel's quest for fame, fortune and the respectable achievement of unseating a QB who holds a record by throwing just 109 passes.  I mean, that's two freaking games for
