Official NFL Combine Invite List

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on February 3rd, 2010 under Football

It seems that the new official list (the banner reads 2009, but it's clearly this year's guys) is out and there are some Big 12 additions. Last month I wrote of the first official list and our OBK friend Triston pointed out that additions were still to come. Sure enough, though no Tigers were added so it's hardly very interesting. The new list with additions in italics: Baylor (2): WR David

Senior Bowl Reminder

Today at 3 pm on The NFL Network (I know, I don't get it either), a couple Tigers will take part in the Senior Bowl. Here are the Big 12 guys: North team 81 Alexander, Danario WR Missouri 27 Asante, Larry DB Nebraska 29 Brown, Chris RB Oklahoma 59

OSU Pokes Preview: FU Travis

Posted by Boo Radley on January 29th, 2010 under Basketball

I hate Travis Ford. I mean really hate him. I know we were going on probation. I know Rick Pitino and his home state school came a calling. I get all that blah, blah, blah. Doesn’t make it any better. See Travis Ford was my favorite Tiger in 1989. He was on the Big Eight Conference All Freshman team. He hit a monster game winner up in Ames. He was going to be the point guard

NFL Combine Invites – Big 12

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 14th, 2010 under Football

It's that time of year when the NFL makes public those who have been invited to prance and pose their way around a bunch of middle-aged men with beer bellies and too-tight nylon shorts. Surprisingly, invitees almost never say no. In its infinite wisdom, the NFL got its hands on the MU depth chart and decided to invite nearly all the senior starters. Tigers who will be at the combine:

Should MIZZOU think about moving to the Big 10?

Posted by Boo Radley on December 14th, 2009 under Football

Given the Big 12's lack of having our back, I found this blog post to be very interesting. Dearmond's take. Thoughts?

‘Tis the Season for Coach Shopping

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on December 12th, 2009 under Football

KU finds itself in the fortunate position of looking for a head coach in a year where very few BCS schools are doing the same. The fortuitousness doesn't stop there because in the non-Notre Dame division, the KU job looks to be the most attractive opening out there with just a bit of competition from UVA.

All Big 12 Honors; Congrats to Aldon, et al

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on December 1st, 2009 under Football

The coaches have spoken and Aldon Smith was named the Big XII Defensive Freshman of the Year.  He also tied the Mizzou record for sacks in a single season. Others honored:

Lines We Care About (Week 13)

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on November 23rd, 2009 under Football

The end of the regular season is upon us - kind of snuck up on me.   It's been a wild ride for Tiger fans.  The season peaked, unfortunately, at the Ed against Illinois.  That was followed with some ebbing and some flowing, some ups and some downs, and then bottoming out when a harmless little private Baptist school came to call.  The team responded well, though, and went on the road to dismantle KSU and

Stat: Telling or Anomaly?

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on November 12th, 2009 under Football

That is the question. That is the game. Let's play. I have mocked Mizzou's inability to intercept passes this season. It seems odd that the Tigers have gotten good pressure on opposing QBs and have faced a lot of passes, yet have only come away with four interceptions. Tied for third fewest in the country (Stanford and UNLV each have three). Of the teams with four, Mizzou has faced many more

Hanging with HAL

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on November 3rd, 2009 under Football

Way back on September 29, when the Tigers and Jayhawks were undefeated and ranked and Nebraska thought it was all big and bad because it played the Hokies tough in Virginia, I wrote of Phil Steele's Super Computer. Oh, how we laughed! What does a stupid computer know about football anyway? I thought it was time we checked in again with HAL to see what nonesense he was up to

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 7

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on October 21st, 2009 under Football

Wowsers … what a week in the Big 12.  I left you with these thoughts last week:  “…I’m very interested to see what the Mad Pirate has in store for the Huskers, whether Daddy Hawkins will finally bench his boy to give his team a fighter’s chance against the Jayhawks and, most importantly, whether the Tigers can shake off last Thursday’s fourth quarter debacle …”  Well, the Mad Pirate and Daddy Hawkins pulled off big upsets, but

Lines We Care About (Week 8)

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on October 19th, 2009 under Football

I can't believe we're already to week 8. Mizzou is halfway through the regular season schedule and sitting at 4-2. Preseason that sounded reasonable, yet I sit here disappointed. Gabbert playing better than expected and the defense indeed living up to Gene Claude's expectations of strength combined to raise my hopes for the '09 Tigers. Two disappointing double-digit losses have tempered my enthusiasm. Well, a win this weekend would untemper

Eye on The Cowboys (and Cowgirls)

Posted by JR Slim on October 16th, 2009 under Football

Just hang with me one more week fellow Tiger kool-aid drinkers.  Don't hop off the bandwagon just yet. Our hopes and dreams for a North Division title may be on life-support, but they are still alive.  In fact, if the Tigers and Red Raiders take care of business this weekend, Mizzou will be in the driver's seat once again.  This weekend is huge.  It is enormous.  It is a season-making game at this point.  Have

Tigers voted 7th in Pre Season Big XII Poll

Posted by Boo Radley on October 15th, 2009 under Basketball

So what. Remember that team that made it to the Elite Eight last year, and probably should have beaten U Conn? Well they were pre season 7th as well. Can these Tigers do it again? Not going to be easy. As I am sure most of you have seen, here is the poll. Team (First Place Votes) Points Kansas (11) 121 Texas (1) 111 Oklahoma 95 Kansas State 92 Texas A&M 74 Oklahoma State 69 Missouri 66 Iowa State 57 Texas Tech 34 Baylor 33 Nebraska 38 Colorado 13 Why

Eye on the The Rattlesnake Boys

Posted by JR Slim on October 6th, 2009 under Football

This is the game I look forward to the most.  Kansas is more of a basketball rivalry to me.  I just don't have ill feelings for their football team.  Nebraska, on the other hand, is an entirely different matter.   While I am sure that Nebraska does not yet think us worthy of being a rival, the fact is that one of these two teams has represented the North in the Big 12
