1 : a combination, especially of business or political interests
2 : a harvesting machine that heads, threshes, and cleans grain while moving over a field

This month forty-three draft eligible college football players elected to leave college early for the NFL draft. Only four of those hail from the Big 12. Seems like a surprising low number, and is something I think I'll examine in the near future. Big 12 Bowled Over

Rightly or wrongly, people use the bowl season as a measuring stick for the conferences. In a way it makes sense, what with all bowls featuring interconference battles. In another, more logical way, it's inappropriate because of the small sample size and the analysis coming down to random matchups in random locations. Whatever. It happens, and if you can't beat them, join them. And try to do it smarter. Here goes.

As the Big 12 South drops bowl games by double digits to underdogs, the Big 12 North swept its three games. The conference now stands 3-2, thanks to the Titans from the North. If Texas and OU lose, we should stage a coup.

2008 is indisputably the year of the Big 12 QB. Let's see....four of the QBs were odds-on favorites at some point this year to win the Heisman. Three of the top four Heisman Trophy vote getters were Big 12 QBs. Four different active QBs have finished in the top four in Heisman voting the last two years. BIG XII – NORTH v. SOUTH
