Predict-a-North – 4 Games to Go

Posted by Euclid on November 2nd, 2009 under Football

With 4 games to go (unless you are an ISU or KSU fan--they have 3 games left) the division is wide open.  All 6 teams still have a chance to win the North but only two teams--Kansas State and Nebraska--control their own destiny.  While 4 games might not seem like that many, when you put it all together its 16,384 permutations--that's a lot and damn hard to figure out what can happen. There are over 1200 possible

Eye on The Cowboys (and Cowgirls)

Posted by JR Slim on October 16th, 2009 under Football

Just hang with me one more week fellow Tiger kool-aid drinkers.  Don't hop off the bandwagon just yet. Our hopes and dreams for a North Division title may be on life-support, but they are still alive.  In fact, if the Tigers and Red Raiders take care of business this weekend, Mizzou will be in the driver's seat once again.  This weekend is huge.  It is enormous.  It is a season-making game at this point.  Have

Eye on the The Rattlesnake Boys

Posted by JR Slim on October 6th, 2009 under Football

This is the game I look forward to the most.  Kansas is more of a basketball rivalry to me.  I just don't have ill feelings for their football team.  Nebraska, on the other hand, is an entirely different matter.   While I am sure that Nebraska does not yet think us worthy of being a rival, the fact is that one of these two teams has represented the North in the Big 12

Battlefield Recon – A Look at the Tigers’ Remaining Opponents

NEVADA 2009 Record: 0-2 Last week: L 35-20 @ Colorado State (3-0) This week: Mizzou Nevada’s woes continued in Fort Collins as the Wolf Pack turned the ball over an unbelievable five times.  The WAC preseason offensive player of the year, QB Colin “Bo” Kaepernick, completely shat on himself again throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble.  The Wolf

Allow me to retort

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on July 13th, 2009 under Football

So, our friend(?) Scipio Tex at Barking Carnival has zero faith in the Missouri Tigers.  That plain ol' hurts.  Before I retort, let me tell you why it hurts - oh, and allow me to be a little gay.  Scipio is the Rolls Royce of bloggers.  He brings a combination of wit, smarts, and spelling the likes of which have not been seen since Mark Twain quilled a passage about Tom

Combine

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on February 3rd, 2009 under Football

Webster's provides two definitions of the noun "combine."  It's anybody's guess which one the NFL had in mind when it started calling its annual ritual of sizing up eligible draftees by that name. 1 : a combination, especially of business or political interests 2 : a harvesting machine that heads, threshes, and cleans grain while moving over a field Either definition works.   Here's the complete list of NFL Scouting Combine invitees.

They Left Early – Do We Care?

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 25th, 2009 under

This month forty-three draft eligible college football players elected to leave college early for the NFL draft.  Only four of those hail from the Big 12.  Seems like a surprising low number, and is something I think I'll examine in the near future.  For now, though, I want to take a look at the four athletes who bolted early and analyze whether it helps Mizzou or hurts Mizzou.  Because that, ladies and gentlemen, is the only

Big 12 Bowled Over

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 11th, 2009 under

Rightly or wrongly, people use the bowl season as a measuring stick for the conferences.  In a way it makes sense, what with all bowls featuring interconference battles.  In another, more logical way, it's inappropriate because of the small sample size and the analysis coming down to random matchups in random locations.  Whatever.  It happens, and if you can't beat them, join them.  And try to do it smarter.  Here goes. Before the bowls, I analyzed the

Big 12 North – the Pride of the Conference

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 2nd, 2009 under Football

As the Big 12 South drops bowl games by double digits to underdogs, the Big 12 North swept its three games.  The conference now stands 3-2, thanks to the Titans from the North.  If Texas and OU lose, we should stage a coup.    North rides in to seize control of the Big 12 I did not get to see all of the Nebraska and KU

The Conference of Quarterbacks….seriously?

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on December 22nd, 2008 under Football

2008 is indisputably the year of the Big 12 QB.  Let's see....four of the QBs were odds-on favorites at some point this year to win the Heisman.  Three of the top four Heisman Trophy vote getters were Big 12 QBs.  Four different active QBs have finished in the top four in Heisman voting the last two years.  Half the Big 12 QBs finished the year in the top 20 in the nation in passing efficiency.  Ten of

BIG XII – NORTH v. SOUTH

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on November 20th, 2008 under Football

Although there are two exciting weekends (or at least one) remaining in the Big XII season, the 18 regular season games between North and South teams have thankfully concluded.  The results can simply be described as a severe ass pounding:   BIG SOUTH - 15 WINS little north - 3 wins   As you probably guessed, the big four in the South (TT, UT, OU and OSU) went 12-0 while A&M was
