Almost Official BCS Standings

Posted by Euclid on September 28th, 2009 under Football

BCS Guru has put together a preliminary BCS poll based on the human polls and 4 of the 6 computer polls.  He also points out some very valid criticisms of the human polls.  It would usually be this time of the year where I start to point out how schools like Boise State won't be able to get an at large bid because their strength of schedule is so weak and they are ranked so

A lone voice in the BCS wilderness

Posted by Gene Claude on November 25th, 2008 under Football

I'm sure this is comes as no surprise to those who know me,  but as the voices clamoring for an NCAA football playoff become ever more shrill and Presidential, I find myself more and more convinced the current system (perhaps with minor tweaks) does a superior job determining the best college football team. Crazy, isn't it?  How could this subjective, multi-part Frankenstein choose the best college football team?  Unpossible! The whole, entire point of the BCS is that

BCS on ESPN; Fox Out

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on November 18th, 2008 under Football

ESPN confirms today that it is taking over production of the BCS games come 2011.  I find this pleasing.  I am not the biggest fan of ESPN, as I find its highlight shows mostly focus on fellating athletes, "reporters" yelling at each other, and something called a Budweiser Hot Seat, which often includes the aforementioned fellating and reporters yelling.  At least, however, ESPN covers college football and I think with its family of networks, it does a pretty good

Would you like to play a National Championship game?

Posted by Euclid Claude on November 7th, 2008 under Uncategorized

In a collaboration that would make the original Wonder Twins proud, Euclid Pi (the Wonder Twin dude) and Gene Claude (the Wonder Twin chick) have come together as Euclid Claude.  Our mission?   To put together the most comprehensive National Championship interactive probability analysis on the web, aka The National Championship Predictatron.   So, before explaining how we got there, the punchline: The Predicatron allows YOU to input your own estimates

Handicapping the National Championship Game Hopefuls

Posted by Gene Claude on October 28th, 2008 under Football

At this time of year, for some reason, college fans become captivated by where Their Team stands in the BCS rankings.  That would be quite useful, if the National Championship Game was played tomorrow.  This reminds me of the myopic poker player who insists his aces are ahead of the straight flush draw after the flop.  Um, OK.  Please gamble with me often. Instead of focusing on current standings, I'm taking a shot at looking at the contenders' remaining schedules and making some

Get Your Head Up Tigers!

Posted by JR Slim on October 21st, 2008 under Football

Today's ray of hope in an otherwise bleak football world is this: October 20, 2001 - Colorado rolls into Austin with a 5-1 record and gets pummeled by Texas 41-7. December 1, 2001 - Colorado rolls off five straight victories to earn a re-match with the Longhorns.  They meet Texas in the Big 12 Championship game in Dallas and exact sweet revenge with a 39-37 victory. It can be done.  It has been done.  The coaches and players

Unoffical BCS Standings through Week 7

Posted by Euclid on October 13th, 2008 under Football

This is the last week of the unofficial BCS results. Next weekend will mark the first release of the official standings. We are still one computer poll short of a full load, but that shouldn't affect these unofficial standings much, if any. No surprise, Texas and Alabama are first and second in this week's standings. Penn State has crept up to the third spot and now waits for the inevitable slip up by these top two teams

Unofficial BCS Standings through Week 6

Posted by Euclid on October 6th, 2008 under Football

We are still two weeks away from the first release of the official BCS standings, but that doesn't stop us from taking a sneek peek at where things stand. With both of the human polls and five of the six computer polls available, we have an excellent representation of how the official standings would look if they were released today. There has been much talk thus far about which conference is stronger,

THE TIGERS ROAD TO MIAMI – WEEK 5 OUTLOOK J.R. Slim

Now that universally acclaimed “most talented team in the country,” USC, shat on itself, the Tigers control their own destiny.  As the USA Today poll below shows, they have three high-profile games remaining, including a game against the # 5 team, Texas,

The current BCS pecking order and who you should root for/against

Posted by Gene Claude on September 29th, 2008 under Uncategorized

CFN had an interesting snippet regarding the BCS and the current pecking order. They said: "As it stands now, the national title pecking order is (for right or wrong) ... 1. Unbeaten SEC champion, 2. Unbeaten Big 12 champion, 3. Unbeaten Big Ten champion, 4. One loss SEC champion, 5. Unbeaten Big East Champion, 6. One loss USC, 7. One loss Big 12 champion, 8. One-loss Big 12 champion, 9. Unbeaten Mountain West champion, 10.

Really Early BCS Rankings

Posted by Euclid on September 26th, 2008 under Football

Here are my way too early BCS calculations. Right now there are two computer polls that haven't been published yet. The Harris Interactive poll also hasn't been published, so these rankings are far from complete. The first official BCS rankings will be published after the October 18 games. As a refresher, the official BCS rankings are made up of 3 equal parts (USA Today poll, Harris Poll, average of 6 computer polls after

The Tigers Road to Glory – Week 4

Posted by JR Slim on September 26th, 2008 under Football

I was amused last week while listening to the throng of Georgia Bulldog fans surrounding me in an Atlanta bar proclaim that the Dawgs were making a “f**king statement” while we watched the beat-down administered to Arizona State.  I simply chalked up their hyperbole to the excessive alcohol intake.  After all, the Jagearbombs I was slamming were undoubtedly to blame for my uncharacteristic assault of some poor guy who was foolish enough
