From the Frozen Tundra to CoMo

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on March 2nd, 2010 under Football

An odd journey to say the least, but a linebacker at Juneau-Douglas High School in Juneau, Alaska is walking on at Mizzou. No mention in this article on how he got hooked up with the Tiger coaching staff and I doubt Mizzou is sending Coach Otterbacher on the bridge to nowhere to scrounge up recruits. Jack Perkins (good football name) is actually a linebacker/fullback. From what I've found, he's 6'1", 225, has a

Offensive changes brewing?

Posted by Gene Claude on January 7th, 2010 under Football

Matt Hoch flippping his commit from Iowa (where he was to play defensive end) to Mizzou (where he will play on offense) has caused some speculation that the Tigers are already were planning some offseason offensive changes prior to the Texas Bowl. In fact, Hoch mentioned that he was recruited to play H back at Mizzou (as was Trey Millard, at Rock Bridge). This would continue a trend that began midseason with Andrew

Hey now you’re an all star….

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on January 6th, 2010 under Football

It's the time of year for painfully boring all-star games for the high school and college elite. And now there are so many of each, "elite" is not exactly accurate. Still, if a Mizzou recruit or player is in one of these games - something that just five years ago was never an issue - I will watch.

Mizzou DT commit Lucas Vincent impressive in all star game

Posted by Gene Claude on January 4th, 2010 under Football

Missouri commit Lucas Vincent earned rave reviews at the O-D All American Bowl in Myrtle Beach last weekend while playing alongside more heralded prospects (such as Case McCoy).  The 6'3", 270 lb defensive tackle forced a fumble early and had 2 or 3 sacks.  He was described during practices as unstoppable.  All welcome news for a Tiger defense that can use all the help it can get, especially on the interior of the line.  I

Turner Gill and Recruiting

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on December 15th, 2009 under Football

"...we were looking for somebody that knows the Big 12, and somebody who can recruit Texas and Oklahoma and all of the places that we want to recruit. But also the fact that he can recruit nationally. I personally believe that Turner can go into any home and get any player."

Not so fast on Ty Phillips

Posted by Gene Claude on December 4th, 2009 under Football

Wow. Check out this story on the prep school Missouri recruit Ty Phillips was attending. Not good. I'm guessing we are not counting on Mr. Phillips's January enrollment.

Mizzou recruiting: Help in the trenches

Posted by Gene Claude on November 24th, 2009 under Football

As the Tigers near completion of their 2010 football recruiting class, I thought I'd take a look at the current verbal commitments and remaining targets. Much of the following information and opinions comes from months of synthesis from Powermizzou, the Missouri Rivals site, as well as a few other sources (espn scouts and random internet trolling). The guys over at Powermizzou do an insanely good job getting first hand information from

New football commits

Posted by Gene Claude on September 20th, 2009 under Football

Two new commitments, per Powermizzou.  Henry Josey, 5'10", 200 lb RB from Texas.  Sounds like a classic Pinkel recruit.  Not heralded after a good but not great junior year at a relatively small school (Angleton--south of Houston about 30 miles), great athlete.  Pinkel and his staff seem to outwork everyone in these small Texas towns as well as some inner city schools...think of Ziggy Hood, Sean Weatherspoon, Danario, Jerrell Jackson, Marvin Foster (for

Basketball: Phil Pressey is a Tiger

Posted by Gene Claude on September 13th, 2009 under Basketball

Multiple sources (espn and Powermizzou) report that high profile Texas prep point guard Phil Pressey committed to the Tigers on an unofficial visit this weekend. Pressey is probably the highest profile national recruit signed by Mike Anderson. He had offers from Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Florida and a host of others. He is ranked the 54th best player in the 2010 class by Rivals and 31st by espn/Scouts Inc.

LB Coach right before we moved over here usmc53 left the below question for you in response to one of your comments. Based on this post I take it the NT is just reading the Center’s head after the snap. I thought he asked a great question though and didn’t want it to

I agree that the Tigers will win.

I am starting to feel progressivley optomistic. Hopefully we can glean some discernable info about how this transition is going during spring practice. Valpodoc, glad to see you are still with us here at the new place. Your comments always add to the quality of the discussion.

Well, here at AT we talk about Chase Daniel coming back to Mizzou to coach QBs and recruit the Dallas area. We haven’t taken it off the table, but not sure it carries much predictive value on our table.

Oklahoma sports media coverage is slanted towards OU? I refuse to believe Dean Blevins would do that.

If we can stop Stephon Marbury from eating the rest of the Vaseline we have a chance.

Peter Graves has more life than my bracket. I pick games like Gary Johnson shoots free throws. Nebraska is better off in the standings than I am in the bracket contest. Get the point? Yesterday was one of

    Barnes’ three “strengths”:

    Defense, rebounding, recruiting.

This team just proved the first two are non-existent (out-rebounded by 25; fucking KIDDING me?) and the last one is over-hyped as well. Every ESPN basketball recruiting analyst who actually had Bradley ahead of Wall should be taken out back and executed Inglourious Basterds style.

a Good System will usually beat a talented team that does not play together and are thinking instead of playing basketball ,over a season the system wins more then they will give away.
A team that is scared to make a mistake and thinks before they react is going to lose to a confident but

I hope your drunk, because Izzo ain’t coming to Texas……Why don’t we just get Coach K. I mean Coach G came from Duke, they have to be dying to get out of Durham….

Egg, that’s fine, but at what point do you blame Barnes? Seriously, man. You’ve thrown players under the bus left and right, but at a certain point, doesn’t the buck stop somewhere. I know you’re more of an NBA guy so it begins and ends with players there, but we need fucking

    Trips,

I hear ya. I’m frustrated as well. I guess I just don’t prescribe to such a black and white characterization of the situation. I do know that no matter what happened in the huddle, JCB made a dumb play. If Rick didn’t explain or remind him of the situation, then I

Pat, know I don’t, but I’ve had coaches draw up plays to free up the best foul shooter and then tell that guy they’d put their foot up his ass if they passed the ball. It’s funny, but as a fans of football we nitpick blitz pickup and shit like that. Shit that’s
