Crow and the Crabtree Contract, or Lack Thereof

Aaron Crow finally got his deal.  Fifteen months after being drafted by the Washington Nationals, the Missouri star signed a major league contract with the Royals.  The deal was for less guaranteed than he turned down from the Nats, but it's a major league contract and incentives can push him beyond the Nats' final offer.  I'm surprised he was able to get such a good deal - what kind of leverage did he have?  What

Pujols and the Triple Crown

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on June 27th, 2009 under Baseball

Yes, this is a Missouri Tiger site.  Yes, Albert Pujols does not go to Mizzou, nor has ever gone to Mizzou.  Still, I was thinking about La Machina (El Machino?) the other day and got to wondering about his Triple Crown chances.  He's currently leading the NL in homers and RBIs and is ninth in batting average.  It's early, but not THAT early that this discussion isn't worthy of a blog post.  We're 46% of the

Aaron Crow back on the mound

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on May 6th, 2009 under Baseball

Aaron Crow, former Mizzou pitcher and number one draft pick of the Washington Nationals in 2008, finally pitched again in a game.  Crow, after being unable to come to terms with the Nats, signed with the Fort Worth Cats of the American Association, and is prepping for the 2009 draft in early June. Crow wasn't masterful as he tried to pitch through the rust.  From the Baseball America blog: Crow, who is pitching for the

Who hasn’t shit their pants?

Not sure I am "good twice a year" for it, but I am not afraid to admit I've come up short on a trip to the can more than once. Don't get me wrong, I am not ready for Depends. Ask my friends, I can hold a good firm turd for a week if need be. But from time to time a case of explosive diarrhea makes things interesting. You know the

We have to live with the fact that Baylor is a more talented and better coached basketball team than we are.

    CJD,
I know exactly what you are talking about. Pitiful defense. We open the second half giving up about 4 easy buckets on run-outs. Damion shoots a three, Mason watches and does not get back, easy bucket. Lucas gets beat down court and gives a way a soft foul for a 3 point

That was a ruthless and depressing cataloguing of failure. Thanks Hank! I think.

There’s no question that Barnes without point guard just doesn’t work.

Wildcat fans everywhere took a deep sigh of relief at halftime Thursday night.

Kansas State reminded everyone just how good it is when the intensity is turned all the way up. This team will be tough to beat in any tournament, whether it’s the NCAAs or the Big 12 conference.

They won’t have that much of a

Good write-up, Trips. I laughed and learned. It was like an episode of Family Ties.

You’re happy with our transition defense? Because that’s what Trips is referencing with respect to floor balance.

And your typing about point guards is something we’d pretty much discussed, established, and put to bed

Particularly the 17 year olds that are healthy, tall, and bad at sports.

I stumbled across this Rick Reilly article on Inside Texas and I think it calls for discussion on a number of issues centered around fair play, basic consideration of others, competition, and our society’s increasingly

Egg, that’s all fine and good, but what did JH do tonight to warrant the benching? You’re talking in generalites parroted by know nothing ESPN color analysts who watch one or two Texas games a year. I saw one egregiously bad shot tonight. The other shots were significantly better than most any other

Four in a row. Last two haven’t really been close. Our program is in trouble. Of course, Baylor shows how quickly things can be turned around…
