AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 12

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on November 24th, 2009 under Football

Texas is clearly the best team in the Big 12, but Okie $tate and Texas Tech further solidified the second and third spots in the power rankings.  As Texas easily rolled over Kansas, the inter‑division games mercifully concluded as the South dominated with 13 wins against 5 losses.  As I have discussed in the past, the gap between the North and South just seems to get wider each year.  Every four years, the exact same

AT POWER RANKINGS – Week 11

I’m watching in amazement as the Buffs give the Pokes all they can handle.  What a bizarre year in college football?!?!? Although I don’t really care which team wins between Nebraska and Kansas State, I am strangely interested because Kansas State either goes to the B12 Championship game or their season is over.  I’m also interested in OU at TT and whether UT or Mangino will do more damage to the Jayhawks this week.

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 9

Not much happened in the rankings this week … the Tigers and Jayhawks swapped spots.  The Toofers jumped back on the Tigers bandwagon after MU beat up on the lame Buffs, but the Toofers didn’t really reward the Red Raiders for beating up on the Jayhawks. Looking ahead to the key match up in the North this weekend, the Toofers seem to like Kansas more than Kansas State.  The rest of the games are pretty much

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 8

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on October 29th, 2009 under Football

There are a few things that are clear from this week's power rankings:  Texas is the best team in the Big 12 … no surprise … Texas will roll this weekend.  Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are second tier, but much better than the rest.  As my friend Gene Claude might say ... Kansas is the tallest midget in the North … we’ll find out this weekend whether the Jayhawks are taller than the four best team in the

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 7

Wowsers … what a week in the Big 12.  I left you with these thoughts last week:  “…I’m very interested to see what the Mad Pirate has in store for the Huskers, whether Daddy Hawkins will finally bench his boy to give his team a fighter’s chance against the Jayhawks and, most importantly, whether the Tigers can shake off last Thursday’s fourth quarter debacle …”  Well, the Mad Pirate and Daddy Hawkins pulled off big upsets, but

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 6

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on October 14th, 2009 under Football

The Toofers have finally recovered from the relentless rain on Thursday night in Columbia so let’s get to the rankings. In the biggest match-up last weekend, Nebraska played possum for three quarters before putting up 27 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.  The Huskers made the biggest jump in the ranking to the third spot and picked up a whopping 15 points.  The Tigers dropped two spots and 20 votes. Although Okie $tate was able to eke

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 5

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on October 6th, 2009 under Football

Another tough week for the Big 12 going 2-3 in non-conference games.  Texas was idle, but extended its lead as OU dropped a couple spots and lost 14 votes after a tough loss at the hands of Jacory Harris and the Canes.  Even though Okie $tate and Kansas were idle, they picked up votes.  No noticeable changes in the middle of the poll until A&M.  The Aggies remain in the eight spot, but lost a

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 4

The Big 12 was cruising to an undefeated weekend, admittedly against mostly substandard competition, until Phi Slama Jama Part Deux as the Cougars dunked the Mad Pirate … 9-1 is pretty good, right?  I know it doesn’t make any geographic sense, but could the Big 12 North work a deal with Conference USA West to swap Iowa State for Houston?  Iowa State sucks while Houston has an exciting team with a young, up and coming

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 3

Yawn … I was hoping for a big shake up this week, but the Mad Pirate let me down.  The Red Raiders gave it all they had, but the Longhorns were just too much.  Texas remains our unanimous numero uno.  You’ll notice that Texas received two additional first place votes this week.  After a rigorous screening process, we have certified two more pollsters in our exclusive club of Toofers. The Sooners continued to try to prove

AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 2

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on September 16th, 2009 under Football

Power rankings … more like power outage.  It was so bad last weekend that Tim Griffin of ESPN.com wrote that the Big 12 looks like the most overrated BCS conference.  Ouch … the truth hurts. Dave Christensen can run to Wyoming, but he can’t hide from Texas.  The Longhorns found him, got his hopes up for most of the first half, then opened a can of whoopass on his poor Cowboys.  Texas is our unanimous numero

AT POWER RANKINGS – Week 1

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on September 10th, 2009 under Football

The opening week is in the books.  Our “super seven” Atomic Teeth correspondents had mixed results with their preseason power rankings.  Oklahoma was atop the preseason rankings, but the Bradford-less Sooners fell to BYU at the site of this year’s Big 12 Championship game.  However, the Tigers rewarded the super seven homers with a big victory over the Illini to justify the Tigers lofty preseason ranking (the Toofers know that the Tigers have gone 28-9

BIG XII – NORTH v. SOUTH

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on November 20th, 2008 under Football

Although there are two exciting weekends (or at least one) remaining in the Big XII season, the 18 regular season games between North and South teams have thankfully concluded.  The results can simply be described as a severe ass pounding:   BIG SOUTH - 15 WINS little north - 3 wins   As you probably guessed, the big four in the South (TT, UT, OU and OSU) went 12-0 while A&M was

OSU or TT? That is the Question

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on November 7th, 2008 under

Unquestionably, the Big 12 Game of the Week.  So, who should Missouri fans be rooting for?  Texas Tech and here's why:  (1)  With a win tomorrow, TT "only" needs a win in Norman in two weeks to
