Eye on The Cowboys (and Cowgirls)

Posted by JR Slim on October 16th, 2009 under Football

Just hang with me one more week fellow Tiger kool-aid drinkers.  Don't hop off the bandwagon just yet. Our hopes and dreams for a North Division title may be on life-support, but they are still alive.  In fact, if the Tigers and Red Raiders take care of business this weekend, Mizzou will be in the driver's seat once again.  This weekend is huge.  It is enormous.  It is a season-making game at this point.  Have

Eye on the The Rattlesnake Boys

Posted by JR Slim on October 6th, 2009 under Football

This is the game I look forward to the most.  Kansas is more of a basketball rivalry to me.  I just don't have ill feelings for their football team.  Nebraska, on the other hand, is an entirely different matter.   While I am sure that Nebraska does not yet think us worthy of being a rival, the fact is that one of these two teams has represented the North in the Big 12

NEVADA 2009 Record: 0-2 Last week: L 35-20 @ Colorado State (3-0) This week: Mizzou Nevada’s woes continued in Fort Collins as the Wolf Pack turned the ball over an unbelievable five times.  The WAC preseason offensive player of the year, QB Colin “Bo” Kaepernick, completely shat on himself again throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble.  The Wolf

Eye on the Opponent – Nevada Wolf Pack

Posted by JR Slim on September 22nd, 2009 under Football

This game makes me very nervous.  Nevada has a talented team that has played horrific football in its first two games and now comes home with its back against the wall.  The Tigers have a young team playing in its first true road game in fron of a national audience on ESPN.  Hopefully, the Bowling Green wake-up call is not yet a distant memory and the Tigers have not started looking forward to

Eye on the Opponent – Furman Horse Thingies

Posted by JR Slim on September 16th, 2009 under Football

It is pretty difficult to get real hyped up about this week's game when you have nasty blood feuds being fought on the same day between Texas - Texas Tech and Florida - Tennessee.  However, for a brief moment, I got really excited because I thought a controversy was brewing between Furman and Missouri when my weekly perusal of the opponent's various blogs revealed their fans' utter disgust with

Battlefield Recon/ Patrick Swayze Tribute

Posted by JR Slim on September 15th, 2009 under Football

Our Tigers survived quite a scare in week 2. Hopefully, they learned some valuable lessons, toughened up mentally, and gained confidence in the late come-back while securing their second win of the year. Meanwhile, our future opponents went 4-4 on the week as Oklahoma State tumbled from their lofty #5 national ranking losing at home to an unranked Houston team and our North Division brethren, Colorado, KSU and Iowa State, embarrassed the rest

Eye of the Tiger on the Bowling Green Pedagogues

Posted by JR Slim on September 10th, 2009 under Football

If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles – Sun Tzu Both of these teams are feeling good about themselves for the moment. Bowling Green beat a respectable Troy team in impressive fashion and the Tigers looked like da bomb in week 1. BG has nothing to lose as they head to Tigerland as a heavy

Battlefield Recon – A Survey of the Tigers’ Remaining Opponents after Week 1

Posted by JR Slim on September 9th, 2009 under Football

From now to the end of the season, we will take a regular look at Mizzou’s remaining opponents to see what’s poppin’ with the squads still waiting to take their shot at the #25 ranked Tigers. Week 1 saw our non-conference opponents start strong, a once-feared road test at Nevada become more appealing, and our big brothers from the South look fierce. BOWLING GREEN 2009 Record: 1-0 Last week: W 31-14 Troy @ home Next week:

AT POWER RANKINGS – Week 0

Posted by JR Slim on August 18th, 2009 under Football

Practice is becoming more intense. Depth charts are shuffling. Media attention is increasing. Fans are dutifully preparing for their season opener pre-party pancake breakfast extravaganzas (maybe that is just me). It is time to start focusing on the 2009 season in earnest. To get the conversation rolling, we surveyed our top “super seven” Atomic Teeth correspondents to see how they see the Big 12 shaking out. Like the rest of the country, AT is quite enamored

Mizzou v. Oklahoma Preview – Stats to Ponder

Posted by JR Slim on December 4th, 2008 under Uncategorized

I will be typing this week's preview while drinking a tall glass of Southern Comfort.  Otherwise, I fear that the statistical mismatch facing the Tigers would be so frightening that I would be unable to complete this post.  This is not the match-up Tiger fans wanted.  I am having trouble finding anything negative about the Sooners.  They look pretty good to me. 2 - OU will

Mizzou v. Kansas Preview – Stats to Ponder

Posted by JR Slim on November 25th, 2008 under Football

0 - Kansas has never played in bowl games in consecutive years.   That is pathetic. 1 - Mizzou holds a 1 game lead in the series.  Of course, Kansas will tell you that they hold a one game lead because they think that the 1960 victory gained while using an ineligible player that was later ruled a forfeit should somehow count as a win.  The NCAA and Missouri (and any reasonable person) disagree with this assessment.

Why We are Better Than You – Notre Dame

(Part 1 of a 118 part series) The University of Notre Dame's official mission statement states that it: "seeks to cultivate in its students not only an appreciation for the great achievements of human beings, but also a disciplined sensibility to the poverty, injustice, and oppression that burden the lives of so many. The aim is to create a sense of human solidarity and concern for the common good that will bear fruit as learning becomes service

Mizzou v. Iowa State Preview – Stats to Ponder

Posted by JR Slim on November 12th, 2008 under Football

It is not easy to write a feature about interesting statistics when you are playing Iowa State.  This is a very bad football team.  Nontheless, here we go: 3 - Each of the last three games between these teams in Ames have been decided by 7 points or fewer.  The best thing I can say about Ames is that Kate Austen, the fictional character on the TV drama Lost, is from Ames.  I wish she was
