The Barking Carnival network (should I start calling it the FanTake network?) is all over the Mike Leach story. As you know, he’s been suspended by Texas Tech for the bowl game based on the complaint of a player and his parents. Joe Schad reports that the player, still unnamed, was isolated in a dark storage closet for hours as punishment for being injured. Awesome! The Mad Pirate is truly mad.
Back in November after the Mangino story came to light, I wrote about how proper discipline is hard to define. I closed the article out by writing:
But as this unfolds and you watch your favorite hot-head coach – be it Snyder, Stoops, Leach, or Saban – remember there, but for the grace of football gods, go I. Your team could be next. Discipline is not easily defined and can, and will, be used against you if the situation presents itself.
Snyder, Stoops, and Saban are next. Stay tuned.

The unnamed player is apparently Craig James’ kid. Craig James happens to be calling the Alamo Bowl. This can’t get any better.

Staggering.
Leach is a lunatic. We’ll miss him.

Agreed. He’s as good as gone – our conference just became less interesting.

Leach is saying he will sue. Will be fun to watch; that dude will go down swinging.

At least he was kind enough to fuck up right before they cycle onto our schedule for two years. Maybe they will switch to the triple option next year.

I like that this puts Bo Pelini back to 2nd place in the list of Insaniest Big 12 Football Coaches. It was uncomfortable having him hold the top spot after Large and in Charge left KU.
Speaking of Holiday Bowl previews, check ours out and much, much, much more:

you really think leach is a hot-head?
i’m admittedly too close to the program to have an outsider’s view, but that’s the first time i’ve ever seen him labeled as such.
further details are coming out now, and it’s not really resembling the mangino situation. unlike mangino, all the former ttu players are coming out in support of leach and labeling james as a prima donna upset about lack of playing time. also, the so called “electrical closet” is actually the climate controlled entryway to the visitor’s locker room. all that’s been on ESPN so far is the James’ side of the story, and I think we’ll see the truth come out here in the next few days.
that all being said, if the facts come out supporting leach, i think the ttu admin effed this up pretty bad by suspending him and they’re going to have a nightmare PR situation when/if Leach comes back to coach, and you’d have to think he’d be looking for the first ticket out of town.

commish, when I wrote it I was basing it on Leach being a loose cannon. He goes nuts about twitter, he derides fat girlfriends, and offered support for Mangino in the face of evidence that Mangino crossed the line. I could have used Bo Pelini but that was just too obvious – if he hasn’t already attached jumper cables to Zac Lee’s ‘nads I’d be surprised.
Leach is by far my favorite non-Pinkel coach. I will be very disappointed if he is forced out. And, I agree, this is going to be awkward if Leach comes back to coach for the U that doesn’t have his back.
