The end of the regular season is upon us – kind of snuck up on me. It’s been a wild ride for Tiger fans. The season peaked, unfortunately, at the Ed against Illinois. That was followed with some ebbing and some flowing, some ups and some downs, and then bottoming out when a harmless little private Baptist school came to call. The team responded well, though, and went on the road to dismantle KSU and then took care of business against ISU. And now we have Kansas. The Jayhawks have freefalled from 5-0 to 5-6. HAL, the super computer, turned out to be pretty smart with respect to KU. Add in the Mangino factor and there are more variables involved than in the paternity of a 15 year old hillbilly meth addict’s baby.
Variables or no, Vegas lined up the game.
KU +4 mu (KU officially the “home” team at Arrowhead
A&M +22.5 ut
CU +8 nu
OU off osu
TT -22.5 bu
nev +10.5 BOISE STATE
ill +18 CINCY
BGSU -7.5 toledo
wyo -3 COLORADO STATE
ala -12 AUBURN
UF -22.5 fsu
Nevada’s got three 1,000 yard rushers to put up against BSU’s stout defense. The Broncos give up 300 yards a game – Nevada runs for 375. Should be interesting. Bowling Green got bowl eligible last week and can now pretty much assure themselves a bowl by beating Toledo. And, Wyoming can get to bowl eligible by winning at Colorado State, a team that hasn’t won since beating Nevada in September.
I think the MU/KU line is fair, but I would not be surprised to see it trend up a bit this week. Vegas is waiting to learn the fate of Zac Robinson as we all saw what happens when he’s not there to run things. I think CU can play NU close – Tyler Hansen will be running for his life, but CU’s defense has shown some signs of life and can maybe, just maybe slow down Zac Lee’s attack. Still, I’d be surprised if CU won. I will be rooting for them, of course. Long live Coach Hawkins!
I do like Texas Tech. Baylor against non-Mizzou opponents is beyond terrible. Tech’s defense has been really good and the offense seems to be clicking. I feel a 45-7 game on the horizon.
Gamble on.

Of course, the Mizzou line is going in the opposite direction I predicted. Now the Tigers are just a 3 point favorite.
OU is a 9.5 point favorite in Bedlam. Seriously? Zac is even expected to start. The Cowboys get no respect.

I noticed that too about our line. Seems the smart money is on the Hawks. Although it’s still at 4 (opened 4.5) at the Mirage.
Re: OSU – I think that’s what happens when you struggle, at home, with Colorado.

If you look at the body of work, the CU game seems like an aberration and that line looks ludicrous.
I think a 3 – 4 point line is about right for our game. KU is confusing to me. Those struggles against CU and KSU…are they the exception or the rule?

Gene: To confuse you even more, I think both. I think what you saw from us the last two weeks is probably what you can expect Saturday.
We’ve re-discovered our offense a little bit, though there are plenty of exposable flaws. And our defense has tightened some and re-generated a bit of a pass rush. But we still have LBs that are a step slow and corners that don’t have a clue.
I’m expecting something similar to last year, minus maybe 10 points or so. Basically, a 3 or 4 point game, with the game in the 20s or low 30s.

Forgot to address OSU…I’d agree that the CU game wasn’t the norm. But that OSU team is not good. Not at all. But you’re both right, because that line is really high. I guess maybe the Owen Field winning streak is carrying that torch.
On a related note, this game will represent the very rare occurrence that I root for OU. Just really don’t want OSU in the Fiesta Bowl. Our league has been embarrassed enough already this season.

Me too.
