AT POWER RANKINGS – WEEK 6

Posted by Roberto Frankfurter on October 14th, 2009 under Football

The Toofers have finally recovered from the relentless rain on Thursday night in Columbia so let’s get to the rankings.

In the biggest match-up last weekend, Nebraska played possum for three quarters before putting up 27 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.  The Huskers made the biggest jump in the ranking to the third spot and picked up a whopping 15 points.  The Tigers dropped two spots and 20 votes.

Although Okie $tate was able to eke out a win in College Station over the Aggies, the Cowboys dropped two spots in the rankings.  Unless Bryant gets reinstated (Deion who?) and Hunter gets back on the field, this trend might continue.

Kansas played early on Saturday in what was suppose to be a blow out, but struggled against the Cyclones.  Iowa State had a chance to win with less than a minute to go, but the Jayhawks held on.  Kansas played without their starting running back, but the problem was their defense giving up 36 points to a very mediocre Iowa State offense.

One Toofer cast his first place vote for the Sooners.  I assume that it was as a result of watching Bradford throw the ball 49 times against Baylor.  I guess Stoops really wanted to make sure that Sam will be ready to go this weekend against the Longhorns.

Sheffield threw 7 TDs against Kansas State in Manhattan.  Honestly, it was hard to watch.  I kept hoping that Bill would throw the white towel, but he didn’t and the Red Raiders just kept scoring.

Finally, Texas scuffled a bit at home against Colorado.  The Buffalos were leading 14-10 in the third quarter when the wheels came off … blocked punt for a TD + 92-yard interception for a TD + 74-yard punt return for another TD = game over.  Colt looked human and it certainly made Texas look vulnerable going into their biggest conference game of the season.

The Red River Shootout will open the upcoming weekend, but I’m very interested to see what the Mad Pirate has in store for the Huskers, whether Daddy Hawkins will finally bench his boy to give his team a fighter’s chance against the Jayhawks and, most importantly, whether the Tigers can shake off last Thursday’s fourth quarter debacle … several of the Toofers will be in Stillwater this weekend so the Tigers better be ready or it is going to be an ugly night in Boone Pickens Stadium.

  1. Which of you voted Oklahoma #1?

  2. Not it. Although, I think by the end of the year they could be number 1. Not sold on Texas as a dominant team, yet.

I don’t get the huge bounce for TT either. That beating was as preordained as the Iraq War.

  3. I must be the Bellweather for the Power Rankings, that’s exactly what my list was.

For me, it wasn’t as much moving Tech up as Missouri down.

I’m almost frightened to see how far Mizzou is going to jump up in this poll after you all get through with butt raping the Pokies. I doubt if the game is close, and I’m thinking blow out. I’m thinking up to #3 or #4. I really haven’t seen Mizzou this year, aside from the Monsoon game, so I have no idea how strong your team really is. Maybe it actually is the 3rd or 4th best team in the B12. Certainly possible in this down year for the B12, but I do know this: I am almost certain that you guys are better than the atrocity which I have seen that is OSU football right now.
