Where Can My Hate Go?

Posted by Gus Vega on September 28th, 2009 under Football

I have always had a list of teams (outside the big 8/XII) that I just couldn’t like or root for and eventually I grew to hate them. The list has slightly adjusted over the years but in general the top three or four teams have always remained the same.

The teams I have maintained a hate for and a snapshot of the reasons are as follows:

Miami Hurricanes – Schnellenberger, Johnson and his recruiting of Ozark, MO’s Rusty Medearis, Kellen “Games are War” Winslow, NFL Alum serving jail time, Fatigues….Basically, they were the gangsta rappers of the football world.

Soldja
Soldja.

Florida State – Scott Bentley and audio tapes, Bowden, Janikowski, and roofieing himself (he was a raider when he did this but he will always be a Seminole to me), the Tomahawk Chop, NCAA sanctions, Bowden (Note, I find it kind of amusing that Bentley and Janikowski both started out with plausible (although illegal) plans but then completely messed them up – seriously you VIDEO tape sex and you slip a roofie to your VICTIM).
Audio...Really?

Florida – Guilt by association, it was easier to hate all of the Florida schools and also they served as the Vanilla Ice to Miami’s Ice Cube.

Ice Ice Baby

Notre Dame – My hate comes from the fact that their NBC contract made them the only game available to me in the middle of my aerial antennae, two TV channel youth.

Those four teams became a pretty defensible list and there were always people who agreed with at least part of the list.

Now I am stuck, because the basis for my hate has slowly eroded.

Miami Hurricanes – They have had a few years of sub-mediocrity and they hired a coach whose life could be the screenplay for a lifetime inspirational movie of the week and is currently acting as a positive role model/life coach to his players (they are now about as Gangsta as MC Hammer was when he went to just plain Hammer).

Florida State Seminoles – Myron Rolle becomes a Rhodes Scholar and foregoes the NFL draft to study the metabolic profile of stem cells and cancer cells (basically he is looking for a cure for cancer). At least Bowden is still there, but for how long…didn’t he just turn 200?

Florida Gators – they were only guilty by association, but even so, their quarterback is pretty good….a professed virgin…helps kids. I come off as some sort of Satanist if I go off on Florida too much.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish – I currently have about 500 channels to watch, If I choose I can watch New Mexico State at New Mexico instead of Notre Dame at Purdue. At least my brother-in-law went there to grad school so I can dislike them just to be a contrarian, but that doesn’t satisfy my need for hate.

Due to these extreme changes in circumstances I am currently interviewing new teams to hate, right now I have only one slot filled and that is Boise State, that blue field hurts my head every time I see it.

As you can see I have some hate available and willing to give it to acceptable candidates so feel free to submit your nominees.

Any team coached by Bobby Petrino is worthy of righteous hatred so I humbly suggest Arkansas, for the time being at least.

  2. You can always do what I do and hate Kansas more.

  3. seriously you VIDEO tape sex and you slip a roofie to your VICTIM

    Nice.

Dadgumit, I’ve always liked Bobby Bowden. Never liked Spurrier, so I always hated the Gators.

And the U. First, they call themselves the U. Second, they’re still hassling our man Sheldon Richardson. I was glad to see Miami get slaughtered by Va Tech.

  4. I hate Boise State. The hubris of that blue field really pisses me the hell off. What, the green the other 2 billion colleges have chosen is not good enough for you?

Also, I hate UCONN and USF. Suffer a shitty team for a few decades like the rest of us, Messrs. Johnny-come-latelies.

And I’m no fan of UTEP either, but I can’t seem to get any traction on that one. I blame them for the Bob Stull phenomenon.

  5. GC, I’ve hated UCONN ever since that punt returner faked a fair catch call and scampered for a TD against Louisville. He and his team were so proud of him for cheating and not getting caught.

  6. I hate THE Ohio State University, mostly because of “THE”…

  7. i agree thta ohio state should be on my list…i mean a buckeye….terrell pryor…bcs blowups

  8. Notre Dame probably just because they think they are better than everyone else, even though they haven’t been good in years

Don’t really like Illinois too much, especially now since we play them and recruit so much against them in STL. Part of it stems from my hate of Lou Henson that I just carry over to football.

  9. Personally, I still have a hatred for Miami and FSU. Even though they suck, when other ACC teams beat them, those teams’ fans have a false sense of entitlement. They go on to brag about beating teams that were once good in the 90’s/early 2000’s. It’s like bragging about beating CU or KSU.
