Almost Official BCS Standings

Posted by Euclid on September 28th, 2009 under Football

BCS Guru has put together a preliminary BCS poll based on the human polls and 4 of the 6 computer polls.  He also points out some very valid criticisms of the human polls.

It would usually be this time of the year where I start to point out how schools like Boise State won’t be able to get an at large bid because their strength of schedule is so weak and they are ranked so low in the human polls.  That’s not the case this year.  I actually think that Boise State has an excellent chance of playing in the National Championship game.  While they will see their strength of schedule go down as the season progresses, the fact they will likely remain undefeated should more than offset their weaker schedule when it comes to the computer rankings.  Given that at least 2 of the 3 SEC schools in front of them will lose at least one game and Texas plays in the challenging Big XII South, there is a more than insignificant chance we will see the Broncos in Pasadena.

What about UH? They have better non-conference wins than Boise St. and will be favored in the rest of their games provided they keep winning. This is going to get real interesting with the possibility of Bama/Florida, Texas (fingers crossed), UH, and Boise St going undefeated. Not to mention TCU. I want as many teams to go undefeated as possible, provided that UT is in Pasadena for the championship.

  2. Absolutely, there are several non-BCS teams that have a chance to crash the party. The lack of undefeated BCS conference teams at the same time there is potential for several undefeated non-BCS teams could make things very interesting. I like interesting.

  3. The Harris Poll, part of the BCS formula, has voters that include K-State in the top 25. What’s up with that?

  4. Phenom, I like how in the face of including K-State in the poll, Iowa State’s inclusion somehow seems reasonable.

  5. At least ISU is 3-1. That looks like a possible top 25 team. K State has two wins – both against FCS schools and one of those by a mere 3 points.

  6. I was agreeing with you by saying that when you look at ridiculous votes like K-State, Iowa State’s inclusion somehow seems reasonable (even though we know they have not business being in the top 50 teams).
