Boulder is a beautiful town. Everywhere you look you are greeted with one of nature’s greatest gifts – the Rocky Mountains. Such wonderful vistas. The people in Boulder are also fantastic – an eclectic and creative bunch always ready with a cold beer or hot cup o’ joe. The place has great bars, which is important to everyone I know. Seriously, just a great place to be. And skiing? Get out, man. If you’re a skiier, going to school in Boulder is da bomb.
If you’re a CU student who loves college football, those are the things it’s time to focus on. Your team will not win while you’re there. Sorry.
A few thoughts on the CU/Toledo game:
– Dan Hawkins wants to redshirt Tyler Hansen. Why? What are you saving him for? It’s not like he’s such a great prospect you’re just dying to get one more year from him. As a freshman he was an interception prone scrambler who completed less than half his passes. And, Hawk, I have a feeling you’re not going to be there when Hansen matures into an older interception prone scrambler who completes less than half his passes. Put him in now.
– CU is much worse now than when Hawkins showed up. Remember, this team had just won the North when Barnett got sacked. Sure, the players raped and pillaged their way through sorority row, but they could play football.
– What has Hawkins done? At first he was kind of cool. First year he was all like “that’s right, I’m starting a running back at QB. What’s more, I’m going for it on fourth down….every time.” That was kind of fun. When CU was down 37-10 tonight, he faked that punt. That was cool. Give me something, Hawk.
– CU is so slow. That defense is an embarrassment to the Big 12. Those skill players are an embarrassment to the Big 12. At least K State has some speed on the edges.
– Cody Hawkins. What can we say about Cody? I feel bad for the guy. Hey, I root for him, but he doesn’t belong out there. He looks like my six-year old trying to make a basket when he throws a deep ball (with similar results – me rejecting it right into his grill. Get That Shit Out Of Here, Punk!).
– The CU staff helps Cody out by moving the pocket. Let’s face it, they can’t protect Cody and his slow legs can’t help him run away, so he gets to roll right or left. Great idea. Problem, of course, is that Cody can’t throw while moving.
– It’s not all Cody. He must be sitting there thinking “why do the Toledo receivers look like TO and Ochocinco and mine look like…well, like McKnight and Espinoza?” I hear you, Cody. Take it up with dad.
– Aside from that little Page guy, the Rocket receivers are all 6’5″. And Danny Nobel, the WR masquerading as a TE, is 6’5″. Where did they find these giants?
– I wonder if it was a good idea for CU to play Sunday and then again on Friday. And their next game is Wednesday, and then Monday, and then Saturday…every five days. They want to get the season over with, and who can blame them?
– How long does Hawk have? He has Wyoming at home next weekend and even though the Wyoming HC beat CU 113-10 the last two years, CU will be favored (unless the other Pokes beat the Longhorns this weekend…). But not again the rest of the year. 1-11? Surely they’ll figure something out and get a couple wins. After all, Hawk has to run the table to get to 10 wins…
– Darrell Scott finally showed something. Still not nearly as quick as I thought he’d be, but he at least got some carries and yards.
– Speaking of yards, Rocket Aaron Opelt ran for 100s of yards against the slow, pathetic CU defense. Last year he galloped for -44 yards. (44) yards. Negative forty-four yards.
– I picked CU in our weekly picks. My lack of respect for the MAC knows no bounds. I better start recognizing by Saturday night.
– Barking Carnival posted some thoughts on this game before it was over, along with a disturbing photograph.
– Scipio still likes CU’s chances in the North.
– Mercy rule, anyone?
THANK GOD THAT’S OVER.

That is a disturbing picture. I think it comes for the Bison Lemmings video game. It would be cooler if Dan Hawkins was riding the lead Bison and Cody was on the second Bison … Euclid?
I think the game was particularly difficult to watch for those Tigers fans who suffered through 1985-93. How would you rank Hawkins with Woody and Stull?
