The opening week is in the books. Our “super seven” Atomic Teeth correspondents had mixed results with their preseason power rankings. Oklahoma was atop the preseason rankings, but the Bradford-less Sooners fell to BYU at the site of this year’s Big 12 Championship game. However, the Tigers rewarded the super seven homers with a big victory over the Illini to justify the Tigers lofty preseason ranking (the Toofers know that the Tigers have gone 28-9 in non‑conference games with Gary Pinkel at the helm).
Little surprise that Texas takes over the top spot this week with five of seven first place votes. The Cowboys aren’t far behind after a huge win over UGA in the just completed Boone Pickens $$$$$$$$tadium. Although the AT blogpoll has OU well ahead of Mizzou, the super seven homers have placed Mizzou one spot and one vote ahead of the Sooners (I didn’t rank Mizzou ahead of OU, but I think the Tigers would have a very good shot of beating the Sooners this weekend without Bradford and Gresham). Not much changed in the middle of the rankings. Kansas appears to be the best of the rest, but a 49-3 win over Sisters of Northern Colorado didn’t convince the super seven. Baylor and A&M picked up votes with nice wins at Wake Forest and versus New Mexico, respectively. Iowa State and Kansas State … yawn. Finally, Colorado fell like a rock after a loss at home to in-state rival Colorado State (do you think that Dan Hawkins is wishing that he only had girls?).

Nice arrows and whatnot.
Great question: If Mizzou and OU played this weekend on a neutral field, a) what would be the line and b) who would you like to win? I still think OU would be favored – by a TD or so – and visions of last December at Arrowhead are too fresh in my mind to seriously entertain thoughts of beating the Sooners.

Can Colorado really be this bad? Talk about a falling star – Hawkins is starting to look like a bumbling buffoon.

No, no … CU is worse than that. I’m confident that CU will be our unanimous 12th place team in next week’s power rankings.
Watching Toledo dismantle CU tonite reminds me of one of the funniest posts that I’ve ever read about CU from Scipio’s UT/CU analysis last year:
Dan Hawkins gave the keys of his offense to son Cody and like any good college kid, Cody has wrapped that motherfucker around a lamp post. Cody is 5-11 190 with a weakish arm. He makes up for it by not being a running threat. Every now and then you see him throw an amazing ball, but before you’ve finished rubbing your eyes to see if it really happened, he hits a line judge in the buttock with an errant throw and calls out, “Sorrrrrrrrrrryyyyy, Daaaaad!”

Roberto, had it not been so late and had I not been numb from watching the entire second half while standing up and swaying a cranky infant, I would have found Scipio’s post and used it in my CU/Toledo Thoughts. I was thinking of that very passage (yes, passage) during the game. That’s blog hall of fame stuff.
