Coffman Wins Mackey

Posted by Phenomenal Smith on December 12th, 2008 under Football

Coffman was named the top tight end in the country last night, taking home the Mackey Award.  I have written many a glowing thing about Chase Coffman on these pages and am indescribably pumped for him for pulling down a major award.

Coffman came to us as the number 9 TE recruit in the country, as per Scout.com.  He never failed to thrill us, putting up unbelievable career numbers:  240 receptions, 2,592 yards, 30 TDs, 39 stiff-arms, 14 hurdles….   The man could play and we will miss him.  He’ll soon be thrilling us on Sundays.

His stardom, along with T-Ruck’s accolades from a year ago, has made the program a TE’s wet dream.  Mizzou has already recruited Andrew Jones, a freshman this year and the number 9 TE recruit in 2008, as per Scout.com.  Any top TE recruit in the country would be a fool not to return a call from Bruce Walker, the MU TE coach.

I will leave you with some photos and video of the great Chase Coffman.

I’ll probably miss Tight End Jesus more than anyone else that leaves us this year. Possibly favorite Tiger of all time.

  2. As I said in my draft post, I’m more confident of Coffman’s NFL success than any other Tiger. His abilities mesh well with NFL offenses. Very excited to see him on Sundays next year. I also think teams are going to be pleasantly surprised by his blocking, he’s mean as hell.

  3. He might need to reconsider the hurdling when he gets to the NFL.

  4. That Mizzou through gold colored glasses graphic is really impressive.
