Here are my way too early BCS calculations. Right now there are two computer polls that haven’t been published yet. The Harris Interactive poll also hasn’t been published, so these rankings are far from complete. The first official BCS rankings will be published after the October 18 games.
As a refresher, the official BCS rankings are made up of 3 equal parts (USA Today poll, Harris Poll, average of 6 computer polls after throwing out the high and the low). Given my early rankings aren’t based on complete data, I have two versions. The first is calculated by averaging all 4 available computer polls and the second is calculated by only averaging the middle two computer polls (i.e., throw out the high and the low similar to the official rankings, albeit those use 6 computer polls). In my calculations I used the AP poll as a proxy for the Harris poll. The Harris and AP polls are likely to be highly correlated given they are both human polls.
So, what are the results? Keep in mind that these rankings are based on last weeks results (i.e., USC hadn’t lost yet–I will update the calculations on Monday for this week’s games). Mizzou is 6th if you throw out the high and low computer rankings and 5th if you keep all four computer rankings.

Please remember the computer rankings above are given 25 points for being ranked 1 down to 1 point for being ranked 25. The composite computer ranking is based on the total of the 2 or 4 computer polls, as applicable, divided by a denominator of 50 or 100 respectively.
Check out JR Slim’s piece if you would like to read more about Mizzou or any top team’s road to “Glory”.

BYU is 10th. Doesn’t that make them guaranteed of a BCS bowl? Last year it took Hawaii all season to reach that point.
Utah is 11.

Yes, top 12 guarantees BYU a BCS bid.
It did take Hawaii all year, but the MWC is not the WAC. In fact the MWC told the WAC to get lost when they split off.

It is pretty unbelievable that the top 3 BCS teams all lost this week. I can’t wait to run the numbers for this week.
